This is even easier to do in real-time with the Pathmatics Google Chrome extension.This post will walk you through how to get the most value out of the extension, which makes gathering competitive intelligence simple. Note: You’ll need a Pathmatics account to use the Google Chrome extension.
1. Download the Pathmatics Google Chrome Extension
You’ll need to use the Google Chrome web browser for the extension to work. Use this link to download the Chrome extension. An icon for the extension will appear in the top right corner of your Chrome taskbar.
2. Navigate to a Website
Navigate to the website of a brand or ad publisher you’re interested in. The Chrome extension will be greyed out if Pathmatics has no data on the site. It will be colored in if the site has advertiser or publisher data. When it’s colored in, click on the extension.
3. Choose “Advertiser” or “Publisher” When Prompted
When you click the extension button, you’ll be asked to choose either the Advertiser or Publisher data view. No matter which one you choose, you can easily toggle between them later.
The Advertiser view shows you how the brand is buying ads (direct or through indirect partners) and the top sites on which the brand advertises.
The Publisher view shows you how a site is selling ads (direct or through indirect partners) and the top brands buying ads from this publisher.
You have the ability to toggle between Advertiser and Publisher data analytics tools at any time.
Keep in mind, Advertiser or Publisher views may not be available for all sites. If the site only sells ads, the Advertiser view will be empty when you click on it. If the site only buys them, the Publisher view will be empty.
4. Click “Follow” to Save Advertisers or Publishers to Your Main Dashboard
Click the “Follow” button in the Chrome extension window to track the advertiser or publisher on the main Dashboard in your Pathmatics account.
The Dashboard makes it easy to keep tabs on multiple advertisers and publishers in a single place. For advertisers, you can view impression spikes and new creatives released. For publishers, you can see new direct and indirect advertisers who have purchased from the publisher.
5. Click “View Full Report” to See an Advertiser or Publisher in Pathmatics
Click “View Full Report” and you’ll be taken directly to the advertiser or publisher’s profile in Pathmatics.
For advertisers, you can view in this profile:
- Top creatives
- Overview of daily spend and impressions
- How the advertiser buys impressions
- Top sites where the advertiser spends ad budget
- Spend share for top sites where the advertiser spends ad budget
For publishers, you can see:
- Who buys impressions from the publisher
- Top advertisers on the publisher’s site
- Top industries that advertise with the publisher
- Top ad services used on the publisher’s site
