Top brands used advertising in 2017 to inform, entertain, educate, inspire, and of course, sell in new and inventive ways. After all, advertisers are up against more noise than ever, and consumers have the power to pay attention or click away.
The result? Many creative, impactful advertising campaigns.
There were a few ads that truly stood out to us in 2017. Below, we’ve featured five of our favorite video ads. (Keep in mind: This is just our shortlist of favorites. The list of thoughtful ads from 2017 goes on.) Regardless, if you’re looking for a bit of inspiration or a new direction for your 2018 advertising, we suggest starting here.
1. Amazon Alexa Puts the Spotlight on Moments
Over the course of 2017, Amazon released humorous videos showcasing the impact of Alexa in everyday life. We’re not surprised that a few of these ads made it into Amazon’s top creatives. They are entertaining and relatable, while also showcasing how useful the product can be.
Not familiar? Check out the video below for an example. The owner seems to have misplaced her phone, and when Alexa calls, she finds it in quite the inconvenient location ...
2. Karlie Kloss Teams Up With Wix
Wix championed the influencer approach in 2017, and teamed up with American supermodel and entrepreneur, Karlie Kloss.
While Karlie’s superstar status may have been the initial draw, the short clips keep the viewer engaged with an inside look at the product. The ad puts emphasis on simplicity, showing how easy it is to set up your own website and go live.
3. Microsoft Makes the World a Better Place
Technology can empower a better world, and Microsoft used its ad platform to showcase its own impact. This particular ad, released in 2017, shows how scientists are using the Microsoft Cloud to study the DNA of mosquitos and, hopefully, detect new viruses and prevent outbreaks.
4. Apple Features Content Created with Its Product
Apple featured picturesque video scenes in a series of clips, all created using the iPhone 7. We like that the technology company is using the ad as a quality proof point. It also evokes emotion through powerful imagery, and emphasizes the value of capturing life’s memorable moments as they happen.
Well done, Apple. You can check out one of the most viewed clips below.
5. Burger King Releases Anti-Bullying PSA
And finally, Burger King outdid itself with PSA that went viral in October. In the video, Burger King “bullied” a Whopper Jr. as well as a high school junior to see which would generate more complaints. The sad result? Only 12% of customers who observed the bully tried to step in.
Burger King leveraged National Bullying Prevention Month, combined with its reach for the greater good. And, not surprisingly, it resonated. In fact, it’s become one of the most talked about ad campaigns of 2017.
